LOCALE: New Jersey
MIX TAPE CATEGORY: Special Guest List / Modern Jazz-Rock-Classical-Electronic
MIX TAPE TITLE: Pyscho-Classical Math-Jazz Extravaganza
OVERALL COMMENTS:
This a compilation of a lot of my favorite artists. There's a wide variety of styles here, some of the artists are even hard to categorize at all. I feel that there's a common theme/sound throughout the mix, although I can't quite put my finger on it. Let me know what you think!

SONG TITLE  -  ARTIST
Track 1: Depression - Dirty Projectors Dirty Projectors - Rise Above - Depression
COMMENTS: Amazing vocal harmonies, intricate guitar licks, overall beautiful.
TRACK 2: Mutual Slump - DJ Shadow DJ Shadow - Endtroducing... - Mutual Slump
COMMENTS: Sick beats, scratching, samples.
TRACK 3: Now, Now - St. Vincent St. Vincent - Marry Me - Now, Now
COMMENTS: Beautiful vocals, wammied guitar harmonics that float around a heavy drum groove. And an amazing guitar solo at the end.
TRACK 4: Tras - Battles Battles - Tras - EP - Tras
COMMENTS: This song is my definition of math rock. A heavy groove that flows over odd time signatures, a simple distorted bell-like melody over the top of that. Layers of guitar tracks.
TRACK 5: REDRUM - Shining Shining - In the Kingdom of Kitsch You Will Be a Monster - Redrum
COMMENTS: Crazy hardcore avant guard jazz/rock side project of Norwegian band Jaga Jazzist. Repetative sax licks with a unrelenting floor tom drilling in the beat. You've never heard jazz like this.
TRACK 6: No More - Dirty Projectors Dirty Projectors - Rise Above - No More
COMMENTS: Another one by one of my favorite new bands, Dirty Projectors. More amazing vocal harmonies and guitar work.
TRACK 7: Who is it - Bjork Björk - Medulla - Who Is It (Carry My Joy On the Left, Carry My Pain On the Right)
COMMENTS: From Bjork's all acapella album Medulla. All I can say is... how did she do it? This song is amazing. Razel beatboxing underneath layers of vocals all over the place. Amazing composition, production, everything.
TRACK 8: Goodnight Jade - Squarepusher
COMMENTS:  This is a nice break from the craziness in the rest of this mix. A beautiful low organ/bass-like pulsing melody. Sounds like you're in the womb.
TRACK 9: Resolution - John Coltrane John Coltrane - A Love Supreme - Resolution, Pt. 2
COMMENTS:  John Coltrane.
TRACK 10: Wake Up - Les Savy Fav Les Savy Fav - The Cat and the Cobra - Wake Up!
COMMENTS: THIS HOUSE IS AN ANCIENT TOMB!!! be warned be warned be warned...
TRACK 11: Salt The Skies - Tortoise Tortoise - It's All Around You - Salt the Skies
COMMENTS:  Math-rock/Post-rock modern Jazz/Classical epic song.
TRACK 12: Step Aside - Efterklang Efterklang - Tripper - Step Aside
COMMENTS:  One of my new favorite bands. From Denmark, Efterklang combines glitchy electronics with beautiful group vocals and orchestral instruments.
TRACK 13: 1-800-Ghost-Dance - Hella Hella - Hold Your Horse Is - 1-800-Ghost-Dance
COMMENTS:  Also my definition of math rock. Probably one my favorite songs of all time.
TRACK 14: The Joker - Lars Horntveth Lars Horntveth - Pooka - The Joker
COMMENTS:  Member of Jaga Jazzist, this is from Lars Horntveth's solo cd Pooka. Beautiful soprano sax/bass clarinet melodies and electronic beats combined with a string octet.
TRACK 15: Styrafoam Boots/It's All Nice On Ice, Alright
- Modest Mouse Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West - Styrofoam Boots / It's All Nice On Ice, Alright
COMMENTS:

Anyone who hasn't heard the Modest Mouse album The Lonesome Crowded West, please listen.
